3. Open the packets, evenly spread the seeds over the surface, and lightly cover them.
4. It is important to keep the substrate always moist; spray water to avoid overwatering.
5. For the first few days, they need light but should not receive direct sunlight.
6. Around the tenth day after sprouting, it is time to move them to their final location.
7. Place each biodegradable pot into the soil of the final pot.
Varieties
POPPY
Papaver rhoeas
Annual plant that reaches 10-60 cm in height. It blooms in spring, but it can also do so in other seasons. Sow at the beginning of spring or in autumn; indoors, you can do it all year round. The optimal temperature for germination is between 15/18ºC. Keep the substrate moist, avoiding flooding until germination occurs, which takes 6-20 days. When the plants begin to grow, place the biodegradable pot into a final pot of at least 20 cm with drainage. Position it in a very sunny spot and water when the substrate surface is dry. They do not tolerate excess moisture.
MARIGOLD
Calendula officinalis
Easy to grow and low-maintenance. Sow in spring or summer, both indoors and outdoors; indoors, it can be done all year round. The optimal temperature for germination is between 12/18ºC. Keep the substrate constantly moist until germination, which occurs about two weeks after sowing. When the plant reaches 10 cm, transplant it into a 20 cm pot in a sunny position. It is not demanding about the type of soil; use universal substrate and enrich it with humus when the flowers begin to sprout. Water frequently, avoiding flooding. It blooms from April to June. The petals are edible.
SUNFLOWER
Helianthus annuus
Spring is the ideal time for sowing, although you can also do it indoors throughout the year, making sure you put them where there are the optimal conditions to germinate. The optimal temperature for germination is 15ºC. It’s advisable to soak the seeds for 24 hours before sowing them. Germination occurs in about 10-12 days, depending on the conditions. When the plants reach 10-15 cm in height, transplant them into 20 cm pots with drainage holes. Use a universal substrate and enrich it with humus when the flowers begin to sprout. They bloom in summer, and the seeds are harvested in autumn, after about 90 days.
NASTURTIUM
Tropaeolum majus
Sow in autumn or spring, either outdoors or indoors, keeping in mind that it does not tolerate frost. The optimal temperature for germination is between 18/20ºC. Keep the substrate moist but not flooded until germination occurs in approximately two weeks. When the plant reaches about 10 cm, transplant it into a 20 cm pot, placing it in the sun or partial shade, and water when the soil is dry. Both the flowers and leaves are edible. They can be added to salads or cheese boards for a spicy and fresh touch.
CORNFLOWER
Centaurea cyanus
Annual plant native to Europe. It features beautiful, intense blue flowers that appear in spring. Sow from February to April by spreading the seeds on the surface of the substrate and lightly covering them. Indoors, you can sow year-round. The optimal temperature for germination is between 12-18ºC. Keep the substrate moist without waterlogging until germination, which occurs in approximately 7-10 days. Place in a location with at least 4 hours of sunlight daily and water every 2-3 days in spring and summer. Transplant to a final pot of at least 20 cm when they reach 10 cm in height. Do not place more than 3 plants in a pot as they do not develop well when overcrowded.
DAISY
Bellis perennis
A very common perennial plant in Europe and Asia that blooms in spring, summer, and autumn. Sow in spring or autumn, burying the seed at a depth of 0.5 cm. Indoors, it can be sown year-round. The optimal temperature for germination is between 12 and 18ºC. Keep the substrate moist without soaking it, and place it in a location without direct sunlight until germination, which occurs in 10-30 days. When the plant reaches about 10 cm, transplant it into a pot of at least 12 cm with drainage and place it in direct sunlight. Water when the surface is dry. It is resistant to frost and various pests but sensitive to excess moisture.
